That’s Not Something You Write Every Day #7

April 30, 2024

I know I already told this story in the last post, but here it is in run-on-sentence form:

That moment when you are so excited that your song finally got released that you decide to have dessert after your delicious meal at Asian 1 only to discover that the “mango ice cream & sweet sticky rice” is full of dairy, so you go to Plan B which is mango sticky rice at the Thai place down the road, but your husband doesn’t feel like going there and starts blathering on and on (now matter how much you drop hints) that he would rather have chocolate ice cream 😉, so you end up at Fred Meyer determined to finally satisfy your month-long craving for Jelly Bellies and you go to the bulk food section to discover that the favorite flavor you were going to get (buttered popcorn) is completely out, so you are now on Plan C or possibly D by this time, so you figure you will have the cotton candy flavor instead, but you go to reach for the bulk bags, and they are completely out, so now, you wander over to the regular candy aisle, determined to find a Big Hunk, and you cannot find one anywhere (even though you look for five minutes) or the small bag of assorted Jelly Bellies for that matter, so you go to look in the frozen food section at gelato, but that has dairy as well…..

About Marie de Haan

Marie is a gifted pianist, playing since the age of nine. As a teenager, she composed mainly instrumental piano music. She released her powerful debut single, “I Am Broken,” on October 22, 2020, a song whose creation drew heavily upon the trauma she endured as a victim of childhood sexual abuse. Marie held a benefit concert on September 10, 2021, in Skagit County. A portion of the proceeds went to CrossRoads Youth Ranch; this local organization—through equine therapy—empowers “at-risk and sexually exploited youth to heal, grow, and thrive.” She has continued to write music: Christian, folk, and country. Marie loves hiking, gardening, and photography. The Pacific Northwest—where she lives with her husband—is the backdrop for her favorite activities.
