That’s Not Something That Happens Every Day #20

April 30, 2024

Celebrated the release of my latest song (“Redeemed”) today by going out to dinner at Asian 1 with the husband. It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

What didn’t make me so happy was my dessert pursuit. 😂

First, they didn’t have dairy-free sticky rice. So, I tried to get Ken to go to Taste of Thai to get mango sticky rice. (We celebrated the release of the “Redeemed” lyric video with that yummy stuff, remember?)

Where was I? On the pathway to diabetes? Might be.

Ken didn’t want to restaurant hop, so we ended up at the grocery store for his customary chocolate ice cream. I went in search of buttered popcorn Jelly Bellies in the bulk food section. Gone. Every last one. I figured, “Hey, I’ll get some of the cotton-candy ones instead.” No bags. I was “O for four.”

I turned to Ken and said, “I’m going to the regular candy section and getting a Big Hunk.” No Big Hunks. So, I looked for the regular bags of Jelly Bellies. Nada.

We went to the tiny grocery store at the end of our road in search of Bit-O-Honey. None. Every other candy in that brand, but the Bit-O-Honey slot was empty. What the heck??

I finally found a Big Hunk. Seven attempts for my celebratory dessert. So, the mango sticky rice craving continues. 😏

About Marie de Haan

Marie is a gifted pianist, playing since the age of nine. As a teenager, she composed mainly instrumental piano music. She released her powerful debut single, “I Am Broken,” on October 22, 2020, a song whose creation drew heavily upon the trauma she endured as a victim of childhood sexual abuse. Marie held a benefit concert on September 10, 2021, in Skagit County. A portion of the proceeds went to CrossRoads Youth Ranch; this local organization—through equine therapy—empowers “at-risk and sexually exploited youth to heal, grow, and thrive.” She has continued to write music: Christian, folk, and country. Marie loves hiking, gardening, and photography. The Pacific Northwest—where she lives with her husband—is the backdrop for her favorite activities.
