Back in January, I wanted to get back into hiking after a very long break.
Instead, I ended up with an ER visit, months of excruciating pain, a six-day hospital stay, and a gallbladder surgery.
Here on Kauai, Ken and I had planned on hiking. Brought my Keens and everything. Never wore ‘em once.
However, I did a little walking. Wore my Chacos all over the island: up and down that steep trail behind me (twice), into stores to buy dresses, along the boulevard bordering the ocean, touring the botanical gardens….
Sometimes I hiked barefoot: across Tunnels Beach and Secret Beach and back and forth on the lawn behind our condo taking countless pictures of the sun and the moon.
By our second day here, I had a goal of putting 100,000 steps on my Fitbit during our stay. Not only did I surpass my goal by 28,469 steps, I had the time of my life doing it.
